Backstory/History - aka, where they have been between DH and Ascendant, and beyond:
It took a long time for the initial scarring from the battle for Hogwarts to wear off. Though it was a mental struggle to be there, it wasn't an option for Padma not to take her NEWTs and see where they could bring her in life but before that could happen the school needed to be restored to working condition. After completing her year at the partially rebuilt castle, Padma decided to go to Gringotts for a job as a Curse breaker. This gave her a chance to use her memorizing skills, ancient runes knowledge and her multi-lingual capabilities. While living with her family would have been the smartest idea, the witch had decided to move out and work on living on her own. That landed her (and her twin for a short amount of time) in a one room flat on the East side of London.

Once her sister moved out, Padma started hunting for a new room mate and found one of her closest friends and coworker was being gently nudged from his life at his parents' house. Situated in a flat that was barely 62 square meters, the tag team started their job in the curse breaking business but they started working in the colder territories: namely Siberia and the tundra. Though a part of the bigger team, the rookie pair have been sent on random trips here and there.

Even though Padma moved out and a good distance from her home town of Berwick, she keeps in touch with her parents and family as often as possible. She barely has time to really concentrate on a relationship since she has found herself either pouring over books in the small flat, out in the field (also pouring over books) or cleaning the flat while Terry takes up space pouring over books. Despite the stress, lack of proper social life and sharing a space too small for a rat with a male, she can't complain for the most part.

How the war affected them:
Despite the emotional deterioration that the battle caused, Padma found herself coming out of it a stronger person. She learned to trust people with more than just a few secrets. But beyond that, she also realized that living life completely involved in making sure she followed every rule within reason of her religion. Until then, she always thought she had time to be a girl who did everything right but when she saw so many lives cut short, it made her realize that there were some things she wanted to do and that she would have to do soon. The battle woke her up to the reality of the world, though usually nice, it could be disgusting and harsh and she needed to grow up and be ready for that. This revelation birthed her moving out and then living with Terry. It also gave her a level of confidence that can be seen physically with the way she walks and acts. Padma has opened up and has learned to embrace the fun that being obnoxious and sarcastic to more than just her closest of friends.

While her confidence in those close and herself has grown, her ability to cope with change has barely changed. She has become obsessive with knowledge and turned learning into her get away from the things that bother her. Her eyes have been too opened to the bad parts of the world and she is working on trying to find the better parts of living through trial, error and rooming.
